Education, far-right, libertarianism and hegemony. Educational strategies during Javier Millei’s government (Argentina, 2023-2027)
Abstract
The collaborative project addresses one of the emergent varieties of far-right forces in the field of
educational politics and policies: libertarianism. Focusing on the positions and policy actions of the
government led by Javier Millei in Argentina since 2023, the project addresses the field of new
far-right and challenges to established democratic orders by addressing a non European case of
specific roots and expressions in a rather neglected field of social and political enquiry: educational
policies. The binational research group will address positions and actions from the perspectives of
document analysis, historical contextualization and transnational networks. In this sense, it presents
an analysis that emphasizes entangled discourses and instances of policy formulation and enactment.
The project combines qualitative analysis of the material, a historical perspective on Argentinian
liberalism and libertarianism as well as patterns of relation and exchange in the transnational
networks of right-wing politics. The two-year project includes a series of workshop and research
stages, including a concluding conference on results and perspectives. It combines different
expertises in the fields of policy analysis, history and transnational analysis and it promotes the further
interrelation and experience of young researchers from both participating institutions.
