CRC/TRR 175/2: The Green Hub: Central Coordinator of Acclimation in Plants (SP C04)


Role of heme for plastid retrograde signalling (C04).
Adverse environmental conditions induce acclimation responses, which are communicated through chloroplasts to adjust nuclear gene expression. Following the concept of plastid-derived retrograde signalling, ferrochelatase 1 (FC1) and its catalysed product heme are proposed as appropriate components of tetrapyrrole-derived retrograde signalling. It is aimed to explore the role of these components in signal transduction during stress acclimation. The search for FC1-interaction partners including heme-transporters is intended to identify further components and to substantiate the proof of heme-mediated retrograde signalling.
