Your Emotional City! A transdisciplinary, citizen science investigation of urban spaces

Abstract

As urbanization is a rapidly advancing trend worldwide, there is a considerable need for research in this area to identify risk factors, but also health-protective resources of the city. To this end, an interdisciplinary team of researchers from Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Humboldt-Universität Berlin, in collaboration with Futurium Berlin and King's College London, will conduct a transdisciplinary Citizen Science project to investigate the influence of the urban environment on mental health. A smartphone-based Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) will be used to assess the influence of urban and social factors on psychological well-being and social stress among residents and visitors of Berlin. One goal is to create an emotional map of Berlin.
