Translation between Text and World

120 year of translation training at Berlin university as well as the bicentenary celebration of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin offer the occasion for us to look into the future of translation as a trade. This is closely linked to the study of translation and interpreting as well as to the status of translation science with regard to its disciplinary diversity, its cooperation with the everdiversifying trade of translation and changing social demands and finally with regard to its interdisciplinary connections. Furthermore, the Bologna Process - aimed at introducing uniform graduate and postgraduate levels in all the signatory countries - is another good reason for us to pave the way for a broad exchange of ideas regarding the many creative solutions open to translation science as a course of study in the future.
