Fluidized ejecta blankets on Earth - Is the Ries crater an analogue to Martian rampart craters?


Fluidized ejecta blankets of Martian meteorite craters are regarded as evidence for the presence of volatiles during impact. The presence of fluidized ejecta blankets on Earth is tested in outcrops of ejected debris from the Nördlinger Ries meteorite crater. Therefore, sedimentary features within the ejected debris will be investigated by petrologic and structural methods to reconstruct mechanisms of emplacement and fluidization of the ejecta blanket of the Nördlinger Ries.
