Metal-mediated synthesis and functionalisation of fluorinated aromatics II


The strategy for the development of new routes to novel fluorinated molecules consists of a metal-mediated derivatization of highly fluorinated substrates. The project involves the activation of carbon-fluorine bonds at a transition metal centre and a subsequent functionalization of the generated fluorinated ligand in the coordination sphere of the metal. The selectivity will be controlled by appropriate ligands at a Ni or Pd centre, leading to an oxidative addition of a C-F-bond in a fluorinated heteroaromatic substrate in the presence of a thermodynamically weaker C-Cl-bond. Based on these reactions, aldehydes will be synthesized by carbonylation. In addition, catalytic cross-coupling reactions, which involve a C-F activation, will be developed. Another important goal consists of the borylation and silylation of fluorinated olefins based on a C-F-activation of the alkene at a rhodium centre.
