Science of Education in Germany, 1800-1945 - Traditions of Selfdescription, social and professional Function, Epistemology
The aim of this project is to write the history of educational studies in Germany from its beginning in the late 18th century to its etablishment as a distinct discipline in the German academic system. In detail the studies are concentrated on three main topics: (i) the tradition of selfdescription esp. the continuing controversy about the scientific status of the educational studies, (ii) the history of the educational knowledge esp. its influence on the educationaly system and the profession of education, (iii) the history of education research in relation to other social sciences.
