Alternatives for Production of Tobacco in Germany

The tobacco production in Germany comes increasingly under pressure. On the one hand, the there is a growing social pressure on producers and manufacturers. On the other hand it has to be expected that granted supports by the EU will be reduced gradually. The tobacco production represents an important income source for many family farms. Furthermore it has a considerable regional economic meaning in some regions. In the study production alternatives which create income possibilities instead of tobacco production will be supposed to farmers. Moreover, it shall be shown, by which measures the conversion to other production alternatives can be promoted.
