Experimental Quantum Optics with Photonic Crystals


Optical properties of nanoscopic emitters in a structured dielectric environment will be studied. For this purpose single beads which are doped with nanocrystals will be trapped and manipulated with the help of optical tweezers. The beads can then interact with single defects in photonic crystal structures. The project aims at the demonstration of ultra-sensitive detection of single emitters, e.g. single molecules, with the help of resonant defect structures in photonic crystals. Another topic of the project is to realize a model photonic crystal by using multiple optical tweezers.
