Medialisation and social change outside Europe: South Asia, Southeast Asia and the Arab-speaking region

Mediated forms of communication increasingly influence the social and political relations and different spheres of life in the regions of South Asia, Southeast Asia and in the Arab-speaking region. In order to understand the profound social changes that go hand in hand with these medialisation processes, an independent and systematic media perspective needs to be generated from within the disciplinary framework of Area and Islamic Studies. The focus of this scientific network will be laid on the fields of media, religion and public sphere. One major result of its work will be an introductory volume, which combines theoretical and methodological approaches to medialisation research in non-European regions with empirical findings from the disciplines that are involved in this network.
