SURUMER – Sustainable Rubber Production in the Mekong Region. Subproject 8: Interaction Management – Facilitation of Transdisciplinary Process and Communication Measures Towards Implementation of Project Results
Abstract
Application-oriented research in the field of socio-economic development and biodiversity deterioration is demanding a high level of Integration within the research consortium SURUMER: integration of the scientific concepts, integration of researchers and practitioners (stakeholders), integration of the research results into the land use-practice. The central instrument for integration on all levels is a dialogue-oriented research process of Stakeholder analysis – integrative planning, monitoring and evaluation (iPME) – implementation & upscaling in order to transfer project results into practical land use. Such research processes are not self-organising! Subproject 8 focuses on steering this transdisciplinary process. Two most important levels of communication are to be managed: • Project internal communication which is interdisciplinary (amongst researchers from various disciplines) and/or transdisciplinary (between researchers and stakeholders directly involved) but always aims at knowledge generation, and • external communication of project results, in particular concerning the transfer – dissemination and adaptation – of knowledge from the project and its participants to (potential) users with the aim of implementation. For the first aspect, it facilitates the multi-, inter- and transdisciplinary discourse in all project phases from mutual planning to participatory monitoring and evaluation, with a special view on the project’s impacts. For the second aspect and as a basis for a broader knowledge transfer and application of the project’s scientific concepts, it analyses factors as well as framework conditions of relevance for the acceptance, adoption and dissemination of alternative land-use innovations within the Agricultural Knowledge System (AKS) of Xishuangbanna and exemplarily develops and implements at least one educational programme. Both parts are interlinked: Interim results of the systems analysis (e.g. goals) will be fed in the discourse and, in turn, the transfer concept will be result of it.
