Urban Agriculture for Food Security and Income Generation in South Africa and Mozambique (UFISAMO)
Verstädterung als ein aktueller globaler Megatrend stellt Stadtplanung vor gewaltige Aufgaben. Die Staatengemeinschaft hat sich in den Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) auf “nachhaltige Städte” und eine “Welt ohne Hunger” geeinigt. Städtische Landwirtschaft wird aktuell wegen ihres Potenzials diskutiert, zu Ernährungssicherung und Einkommen beizutragen, zusätzlich zu den ökologischen und sozialen Benefits. Gleichzeitig stehen städtische Gärten in Konkurrenz mit anderen, oft lukrativeren Nutzungsmöglichkeiten und werden häufig verdrängt oder überbaut.
Ziele des Forschungsprojektes
1. Beitrag zur Verbesserung der Ernährungssicherheit (food and nutrition security) und zur Einkommenssteigerung benachteiligter städtischer Bevölkerungsgruppen in Kapstadt (Südafrika) und Maputo (Mosambik) durch anwendungsorientierte interdisziplinäre Forschung zu urbaner Landwirtschaft (Pflanzenbau und Tierproduktion).
2. Verbesserung der Produktion und Vermarktung von städtischen Garten- und Broilerprodukten. Dafür sollen bewährte Produktionsverfahren (good practices) identifiziert und gute Methoden zur Verbreitung dieser Verfahren unter Berücksichtigung der Organisationsstrukturen und Ernährungsgewohnheiten der Akteure genutzt werden.
3. Integration des Themas „Urbane Landwirtschaft“ in den Curricula der afrikanischen Partneruniversitäten sowie der Ausbau von Lern- und Forschungsnetzwerken im südlichen Afrika zum Thema. Zudem Sensibilisierung von politischen Entscheidungsträgern zur Bedeutung von urbaner Landwirtschaft für die Stadtbevölkerung.
