Helmholtz-Einstein International Berlin Research School in Data Science (HEIBRiDS)
Data Science is one of the core competencies for future scientists, as it allows to collect, process, understand, and visualise valuable information gained from simulations, experiments, open-world sensors, high-performance input/output devices, and model-driven research. This expertise goes beyond the traditional, computer-science-based interpretation of data science. In addition, many interesting research problems can only be tackled using a multitude of different data sources, which typically are distributed over various sites, exhibiting heterogeneous structures, formats and semantics, and providing data in various scales and granularities. Hence, the planned school aims at educating young researchers on the cross-sections of domains and computer science. The members pursue the common goal of educating PhD students in the fields of data science and providing them with a deep scientific understanding of the complex relations between domain specific expertise, algorithmic skills, and application related methods.
