Hydrodynamic Modeling the Ultrafast Nonlinear Optical Response of Metallic Nanostructures

We propose the development and implementation of an advanced material model for the description of the ultrafast nonlinear optical response of metallic nanostructures. This model comprises a quantum hydrodynamic treatment of the conduction electrons in metals that will eventually be coupled to a particle-in-cell approach in order to realize a hybrid theoretical and computational framework. In cooperation with experimental partners, this framework will be applied to nonlinear wave mixing phenomena, ponderomotive nonlinearities, and nonlinear photoemission processes that may be controlled via tailored beams.
