FG 1120: Judging, Curing, Punishing: Cultures of Forensic Psychiatry in Berlin, 1887-1914
The Project examines the complex web of forensic and psychiatric jurisdictions in the Prussian capital prior to World War One. The study explores three spaces in which people with mental disorders were managed: the courtroom, the hospital, and the prison. In assessing the specific character of these cultural forensic spaces, the project examines how within and on the borders of these spaces different priorities and jurisdictions were negociated, contested, and disposed. The project examines the emergence, organization and dynamics of an ensemble of legal statutes, administrative practices, expert discourses, and forensic-psychiatric subjects.
