Energy functionals

The MATHEON project C31 mainly concerns the numerical minimization of nonsmooth energy functionals from Elasticity and Elastoplasticity. Depending on the underlying model paradigm (finite/small strain), we identify suitable regularization schemes which allow for an application of semismooth Newton methods in an infinite-dimensional function space setting. The resulting subproblems will be solved using adaptive methods, thus providing efficient and reliable algorithms for various applications.
