LUMOS-Remote sensing image processing algorithms for land use and land cover monitoring systems

This project aims at increasing the dissemination and valorisation of image processing algorithms developed under the STEREO program. More specifically we aim at transforming image processing algorithms, developed under the STEREO II program, into plugins for the common open-source environment QGIS and making them available via a common STEREO portal/website. We aim to reach users at different levels (thematic users, expert users and developers in remote sensing). The main target audience, however, are application developers and traditional remote sensing researchers. These tools will be accompanied by a manual and examples/exercise in a uniform way. As stated, users will be reached via a portal, providing both the tools and the manuals. Through this portal, Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) will be given appropriate attention. The focus will be on open source tools and re-use. These modalities for the STEREO software tools were defined through active consultation of the Belgian remote sensing community. To this end, a pre-study (SR/01/340; see final report in attachment) has been performed (11/2015-04/2016).
