Torsten Hiltmann is Professor of Digital History at HU Berlin. From 1994 to 2000, he studied medieval history, philosophy and psychology in Dresden and received his doctorate in 2006 from ÉPHÉ Paris and TU Dresden within the framework of a co-tutelle procedure with a thesis on late medieval heraldic compendia in France and Burgundy. Having worked at the German Historical Institute in Paris since 2003, where he implemented his first digital projects and most recently represented the Department of Medieval History, he moved to Münster in 2008, where he researched medieval concepts of kingship as part of his own DFG project. Funded by the Volkswagen Foundation, he became junior professor of medieval history and auxiliary sciences, before being appointed in 2019 as professor of digital humanities and head of the Service Centre for Digital Humanities at the University of Münster. From there, he finally moved to Berlin in 2020.
