Heike Wiese is Professor of German in Multilingual Contexts (since 2019) and founder of the Centre “Language in Urban Diversity” at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Previously, she was an assistant at HU Berlin, a postdoc at Brandeis University, a visiting professor at Yale University, and a full professor for Contemporary German Language at Potsdam University. Research on the dynamics of multilingual settings, with foci on grammar-pragmatic interfaces and linguistic architecture, and on monolingual ideologies, linguistic discrimination and empowerment. Projects on contact dialects, grammatical developments in the repertoire of heritage speakers (as head of the research unit “Emerging Grammars in Language-Contact Situations”), urban markets as metrolingual places, and the dynamics of German in the multilingual context of Namibia. Transfer and outreach activities in cooperation with educational institutions, media, and museums.
