Kallol Ray studied chemistry at the University of Calcutta, India, and the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. He received his PhD at the Max Planck Institute for Bioinorganic Chemistry, Germany, under Karl Wieghardt in 2005. After a post-doc stay at the University of Minnesota with Lawrence Que Jr., he is currently a Heisenberg Professor of Inorganic Reaction Mechanism and Spectroscopy at Humboldt-University, Berlin, Germany, within the UniSysCat excellence cluster. His research is focused on the principles governing reactivities in biological and chemical systems, which employ common transition metals like manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel and copper.
