https://orcid.org/ 0000-0003-2883-7825

Jan Plefka studied physics in Darmstadt and Texas, he received his doctorate in theoretical physics from the University of Hanover in 1995, followed by postdocs in New York and Amsterdam. In 1998 he became a junior staff member at the MPI for Gravitational Physics in Potsdam. In 2006 he was appointed to a TT-W2 Lichtenberg professorship at the HU. Since 2011 he has been W3 Professor for Quantum Field Theory beyond the Standard Model and String Theory at the Institute of Physics. He held guest professorships at ETH Zurich and CERN in Geneva. His research focuses on the theoretical physics of fundamental interactions described by quantum field theory. Here his interest lies in particular in the relationship between gravitation and other natural forces. He was or is speaker of two research training groups of the DFG. In addition, he has taken on a variety of functions in science management; he is a senator of the DFG and was a member of the DFG Senate Committee for CRCs for many years.
