Earned Diploma in Biology (Uni Tübingen) in 1998 and Dr. rer. nat. (LMU München) in 2002. DFG fellow at U of Oregon and INRA/CNRS in Evry, France. Emmy-Noether fellow and Junior Professor at HU Berlin from 2005 to 2012. Elected member of the board of the Institute of Biology (HU-Berlin; 2014- to date), and Director of the Institute of Biology from 2020 to 2023. Elected member of the Review Board "Plant Sciences" (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) from 2016 – 2020 and Editor of The Plant Journal since 2019.
