Patrick Hostert is a geographer by training with a strong remote sensing background. He holds an MSc in GIS from University of Edinburgh, UK, and a PhD in Remote Sensing from Trier University, Germany. At Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, he is a professor for Earth Observation at the Geography Department. His main research focus is on satellite remote sensing of land systems. He links between methods-affine topics (big data and machine learning, large area mapping, deep time series analyses, hyperspectral image processing) and core themes in land system science and global change research (e.g. land systems and climate change, drought impacts on grasslands, monitoring agricultural land systems, forest monitoring and mapping). Patrick Hostert is a member of the Landsat Science Team (2012-2018, 2018-2023) and of the EnMAP Science Advisory group since its inauguration.
