Development of a module-based crop protection strategy, taking into account sustainable and environmentally friendly methods to control sea buckthorn fruit fly

In federal land Brandenburg, cultivation of sea buckthorn Hippophae rhamnoides L is threatened by the fruit fly Rhagoletis batava HER. Fruit damage can be up to 80 %. Farmers are in dire need of a reliable control strategy.
Project MoPlaSa is developing a control strategy which is adaptable for all farmers individually. Different non-chemical modules viz. trap mechanical soil cultivation, barriers, mobile chicken farming, macro- and microorganisms and furthermore sea buckthorn varieties will be regarded. In year 1 and 2 control modules will be tested separately. The most promising module combinations will be examined during year 3 and 4. Results will culminate in recommendations for action and instructions for application.
The Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) e. V. is lead partner. Gut Schmerwitz GmbH, Havelfrucht Werder GmbH and Forst Schneebecke (farmers) as well as Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, e-nema GmbH, Internationale Geotextil GmbH and agrathaer GmbH working in the operational group, too. Additionally, Biohof Glindow, Pflanzenschutzdienst Brandenburg, Landesforschungsanstalt Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Sanddornverein e. V. are associated partners.
